About TBR Consultancy

An independent technology advisory practice for individuals and small businesses — recommending, explaining and simplifying, without selling anything.

Who we are

Independent by design, not by accident

TBR Consultancy advises individuals and small businesses on the technology they use to work. That covers software selection, cloud tools, device setup, day-to-day workflows and troubleshooting — the ordinary, unglamorous technology that decides whether a working week runs smoothly.

We are independent. We do not sell software, hardware or licences, we are not a reseller or distributor, and we receive nothing from any supplier we might mention. That is the whole point: if the best answer is ‘keep what you have and cancel three subscriptions’, we can say so without it costing us anything.

Most of the businesses we work with are small enough that there is no IT department. The person making the decisions is also the person doing the work. Recommendations need to be sized for that reality — practical, affordable, and explainable to everyone affected.

  • Independent of every software vendor and supplier
  • No reseller, referral or commission arrangements
  • Fixed fees agreed in writing before work starts
  • Recommendations written for a small team, not an enterprise

What makes the difference

Four things we do differently

We are not a supplier

Nothing we recommend earns us anything beyond the fee you have already agreed. There is no upgrade to sell and no licence to renew on our behalf.

  • No reseller or distributor arrangements
  • No referral or commission income
  • No hardware or licence sales
  • No financial interest in the tools we suggest

We simplify before we add

The cheapest improvement is usually removing something. We look for overlap, unused subscriptions and unnecessary steps before proposing anything new.

  • Inventory of tools and what they cost
  • Overlapping functions identified
  • Unused licences flagged for cancellation
  • New tools considered only after that

We write it down

A verbal recommendation is worth very little six weeks later. Every piece of work ends with a document you own and can hand to anyone.

  • Findings written in plain English
  • Alternatives and their trade-offs listed
  • Costs shown over a realistic period
  • No jargon that hides a weak answer

We stay inside our scope

We do not act as your IT department, hold your data, or manage your systems. We advise, and we tell you plainly what sits outside what we can properly do.

  • No day-to-day system administration
  • No access to payment or banking systems
  • No handling of sensitive personal data on your behalf
  • Clear statement of what is out of scope

Who we work with

Individuals and small teams

Our work is with sole traders, very small businesses and individuals who need to make a technology decision and want a second opinion that is not attached to a sale.

That might be choosing accounts software for a two-person business, working out whether a monthly subscription is worth keeping, moving files to cloud storage without losing anything, or simply understanding why a device keeps failing. The scale is small, and the decisions are usually the ones nobody else wants to spend time on.
